FinTech - Great Brand - Legal Counsel
Hybrid (2 days in the office)
We are delighted to be working with a brilliant, household name fintech client to find two additional Legal Counsel for its superb Legal team. This really is a great brand and a seriously impressive high-tech and fast-paced business.
The Team
The Legal team has a cohesive, supportive and non-hierarchical structure and you can expect a truly enviable and interesting spread of commercial work. Although you will ultimately report into the Head of Legal (Commercial), you will work closely with Senior Legal Counsel and stakeholders at all levels across the business - from juniors in the marketing department who look after TikTok to the executive Board and everyone in between!
Incoming work and deals are shared fairly and allocated on the basis of current expertise, capacity, areas of interest, rather than level of seniority - a genuinely fair process which keeps everyone happy with the variety and enables careers to develop and flourish.
The Legal team describe the work and business as fun and fast moving. Lots of strategic decisions are made in which you will be included, and your guidance sought from the outset. A deal doesn't just land on your desk for you to draft the contract, you could be involved in negotiating the deal or asked to provide guidance on new concepts. This business continues to be at the forefront of its markets and is constantly evolving.
You will collaborate with colleagues in the Data & Regulatory and Risk & Compliance teams but do not have to have expertise in these areas (you can rely on the seriously heavyweight expertise in those teams and the regulatory landscape knowledge you will need can easily be learned). You can expect to undertake a more core "Commercial" legal role, albeit where no two days are the same!
Types of work
Examples include:
- Negotiating on a wide variety of interesting and business critical deals - either with lawyers or legal teams on the other side or working with internal commercial teams
- Drafting, amending and agreeing variations to an interesting mix of commercial contracts (software licenses and all things digital, IT, marketing agency agreements, sponsorship agreements, procurement, NDAs)
- IP and brands, social media, advertising
- Corporate / intra-group matters
About You
Personality wise, this role would suit someone who is commercially pragmatic, able to think on their feet and happy to get stuck in and work as part of a team. Team fit is critical here, and this is a team which is clearly enthusiastic about the business and their work.
Our client is open as to background so long as you are able to demonstrate commercial awareness and the ability to work well with those in the business. Your legal experience could have been gained in an in-house environment or law firm in either commercial or corporate. As there are two new opportunities at the Legal Counsel level, our client is able to look at lawyers from NQ+ for one role and 3/4PQE+ for the other.
