Legal Counsel - Institutional FTSE 100

Hybrid / Agile Working (2 days in office - Birmingham / London / Edinburgh)

We are thrilled to be exclusively instructed by this seriously impressive and heavyweight institutional client which is looking to hire at the Legal Counsel.

About the Role:

Our client is an institutional FTSE 100 which is looking to hire an additional Legal Counsel within its Legal (Investments) team, which provides high quality legal advice and services to the Asset Management function.

The Asset Management team is responsible for overseeing management of this client's assets (in excess of £300 billion with c.14 million clients) so this presents an incredibly exciting opportunity to join an already very strong and sizeable Legal team. The Asset Management team is expanding rapidly and the Legal team which supports it needs to grow too, in order to facilitate that expansion.

Ultimately, this is a broad and interesting Commercial role which has a number of key responsibilities, including:

  • drafting, negotiating and advising on agreements (e.g. investment management agreements, custody agreements, ancillary services agreements, investment related IT and data licence contracts)
  • legal advice on investment transactions and structures (inc. liaising with external lawyers)
  • supporting on collective investment vehicles, fund restructuring and regulatory applications
  • managing external lawyers
  • providing commercial legal advice and developing internal business partner relationships

Voted a top employer for many years, our client has a talented, inclusive and diverse workforce.

About You:

You are likely to have at least 2 PQE quality commercial experience. Corporate or Finance lawyers will also be considered.

You might already be in-house but those who have gained their experience with a top law firm (regional or London) are of particular interest. Some in-house experience (such as secondment) is preferred although not essential.

You will be commercially focused, communicate well, and have the ability to impact, influence and build relationships within the business.

You will have energy, enthusiasm and real desire to learn about our client and its business and develop your knowledge in this area. Whilst FS experience is not essential (support and training will be given) those with some experience in this area are likely to be of particular interest. This is a sophisticated, complex business so lawyers who are bright and intellectually capable will do well here.

As you would expect from a client of this size and stature, an excellent salary, bonus and wider benefits package is on offer.
